Laurence Deziel- Senior Project Officer at the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing, Secretary and Director of Photonics Industries Australia Ltd

Laurence is an experienced marketing and business expert and has been in the role of senior project officer at IPAS for over a year now. She was scouted by IPAS from her role within photonics marketing back in her hometown of Montreal in Canada. Laurence worked as the Acting Chief Officer at the Quebec Photonics Network from April 2016 to August 2017. When Laurence first started working with Photonics at Adelaide University, she took on a role within the Australian National Fabrication Facility, ANFF, where she was a marketing communications specialist. In addition to her present role at IPAS, she is still working closely with ANFF, providing dual marketing support to both institutes. In previous roles, Laurence worked for 3 years at Nüvü Caméras Inc as a Marketing &Import/ Export Specialist and over 2 years as a Market and Business Development Specialist at Explora Technologies. 




Ted Byrt- Consultant

A company director, Ted Byrt, brings over 40 years of expertise in commerce, corporate governance, and international business to the table. He's a trusted advisor for major development and infrastructure projects, both in Australia and overseas. In South Australia, Ted is actively involved as a business advisor and board member for various organizations. He previously served as the Presiding Member of the SA Development Assessment Commission until March 2017. Currently, he holds chairman positions at Wilpena Pound Resort, The Australian Advanced Manufacturing Centre Pty Ltd, Red Chip Photonics Pty Ltd, and Arkwright Technologies Pty Ltd. Additionally, Ted contributes his knowledge as a board member for the Aboriginal Foundation of South Australia Inc. Ted spent many years working working Norman Waterhouse Law Firm, in his role as senior partner. 




Peter Shute- CEO & Managing Director at Norseld Pty Ltd

Peter Shute is the CEO & Managing Director at Norseld Pty Ltd. Norseld corporate is the manufacturer of advanced medical laser and optical systems for a range of industries including medical, optics, defence and space sectors. Norseld works alongside many tech-based industries like BAE Systems Australia, developing their photonics capabilities as well as working on numerous key projects with Defence SA. Peter has been CEO and Managing Director of Norseld Ltd since November 2010, making him head of the company for almost 13 years. His previous job roles have provided Peter with extensive experience within Sales, Marketing and Business Development.  




Victor Previn- Founder & Chairman of Nova Eye Medical Ltd

Victor Previn is the Founder & Chairman of Nova Eye Medical Ltd. Victor is a professional engineer with his carrier within the ophthalmic laser industry's and ophthalmic device sector spanning over 35 years. He held the position of Managing Director of Nova Eye from 2003 to 2005. In July of 2005, Victor was elected chairman of the board of Directors. Since 1985, his company has evolved from being a small scientific laser company into one that develops and distributes leading edge laser and imaging technology worldwide. Victor and his team are constantly pushing the barrier to produce innovative ophthalmic technology.




Phil Prosser- New Business and Capability Development Manager at Lockheed Martin Australia Pty Ltd

Phil's diverse experience covering large defence programs made him the technically focussed New Business and Capability Development Manager at Lockheed Martin Australia Pty Ltd.  Lockheed Martin prides themselves on being the backbone of Australia's current and future defence capabilities. They are engaged in the integration and sustainment of advanced systems, products and services across space, air, land, sea and cyber domains. Phil has been in his role at Lockheed Martin for almost 5 years. Phil has years of experience in defence and combat engineering within companies such as Ellex, Raytheon and BaeSystems.  



Piers Lincoln- IPAS Manager

Piers has been Institute Manager of the Institute for Photonics & Advanced Sensing (IPAS) at the University of Adelaide since July 2009. He leads the commercialisation activity of the Institute and works with the scientific teams to help them develop their products and identify industrial partners and funding streams. He has helped drive medical diagnostic, defence, wine and environmental projects and has worked closely with IPAS Directors Professor Tanya Monro and Professor Andre Luiten to build transdisciplinary teams across the University of Adelaide and Australia to solve real-world problems. His role encompasses commercialisation, operations management, sales & marketing, HR and finance. Previously, he was the Commercial Manager of the Centre of Industrial Collaboration, Institute of Pharmaceutical Innovation (IPI) in the UK. Before this, he was Marketing Manager for Acambis PLC, a developer of vaccines based in Cambridge, UK and the US. He started his career as a business development manager and Company Secretary of Roslin-Biomed, the spin-out company from the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, which commercialised the intellectual property from ‘Dolly’ the sheep.
